There was a feeling by some last summer, that Roma<\/a> and not Liverpool<\/a> got the better end of the deal that saw Mohamed Salah move to Anfield.<\/p>\n

The Reds paid \u00a334million for their Egyptian King, which has proven\u00a0to be a bargain as\u00a0his 32 Premier League<\/a> goals won him the Golden Boot and his 10 Champions League<\/a> efforts fired the club into the final.<\/p>\n

Will midfield powerhouse Fabinho have a similar effect following his \u00a340m switch from Monaco<\/a>?<\/p>\n

Here, talkSPORT.com looks at the great deals Liverpool have made in the Premier League era and below is the resulting bargain XI.<\/p>\n

GOALKEEPER<\/strong>
Reina arrived from Villarreal shortly after the 2005 Champions League win and what a signing he turned out to be. Manager Rafa Benitez put his faith in him\u00a0and with Reina in goal the club won the 2006 FA Cup<\/a>, reached the Champions League final a year later and won the 2012 League Cup before Brendan Rodgers<\/a> moved him on in 2013. He also won three successive Golden Glove awards, given to the goalie who keeps the highest number of clean sheets.<\/p>\n

DEFENCE<\/strong>
Andy Robertson joined for an inital \u00a38m from Hull and it didn’t take him long to cement his place as the club’s left-back. On the opposite flank is Alvaro Arbeloa, who Liverpool paid\u00a0Deportivo La Coruna<\/a> less than \u00a33m for in 2007, with the Spaniard establishing himself as the main main on the right in the\u00a02008\/09 team, better know to supporters as the best side to not win the Premier League.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Agger, meanwhile, became a popular figure among the Kop for his composed displays in the heart of defence. Scoring against Chelsea<\/a> in the 2007 Champions League semi-final enhanced his standing among fans and the former Brondby man even popped into an Anfield pub for a pre-match pint with supporters ahead of the 4-3 win against Man City in 2018.<\/p>\n

Ask any fan about Hyppia and they will tell you he is one of the best defenders to pull on a Liverpool shirt. The centre-back was unknown when he arrived from\u00a0Willem II in 1999 but when he left in 2009 had won two FA Cups and League Cups, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.<\/p>\n

MIDFIELD<\/strong>
Let’s start with Alonso, one of the most stylish midfielders around. He loves Liverpool and Liverpool loves him, so it would have sent a dagger through their collective hearts when he was sold to Real Madrid<\/a> for \u00a330m in 2009.<\/p>\n

James Milner<\/a> cost nothing in transfer fees when he arrived from Man City in 2015\u00a0and\u00a0has proven to be a valuable asset to Jurgen Klopp’s side and was a key part of their 2017\/18 Champions League run. Philippe Coutinho<\/a> left for Barcelona during that run to the final, but before then the young Brazilian was a smooth operator in Liverpool’s slick attack. He spent five years at the club having joined from Inter in 2013 and became influential in his role as playmaker.<\/p>\n

ATTACK<\/strong>
Mohamed Salah, though his \u00a334m price\u00a0seemed expensive at the time, certainly can be considered a bargain. His value has quadrupled and won a host of personal awards in his debut season at the club, including the FWA and PFA Footballer of the Season.<\/p>\n

Suarez, a January 2011 arrival from Ajax, tore defences apart once he settled into life at Anfield and has continued to terrorise defences as a Barcelona player. Talk to any fan and they will probably tell you he is the best Liverpool player of the Premier League era.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sterling isn’t the most popular man on Merseyside, but\u00a0is a steal at \u00a3500,000. He\u00a0joined\u00a0from Queens Park Rangers<\/a> as a 15-year-old in 2010 and pretty soon was an England international and one of the Premier League’s best attackers. Liverpool\u00a0made a huge profit when they sold him to Man City in 2015 for \u00a349m.<\/p>\n
