Jamie Carragher believes the current Liverpool squad is better than anything he experienced in 17 years at the club.<\/p>\n

The Reds have been the Premier League\u2019s highest spenders<\/a> in the summer transfer window, splashing more than \u00a3170m to bring in Alisson, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tFabinho arrived from Monaco\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Carragher featured in the Champions League winning side of 2005 and played alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres.<\/p>\n

But Liverpool\u2019s second-longest ever serving player admits that while this side must prove their title credentials, he can\u2019t recall a stronger squad<\/a> during his playing career.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does look like a really top-end squad at the moment, possibly as good as anything I was involved in and I was at Liverpool for 17 years,\u201d he told talkSPORT.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe squad that they have now and the strength they\u2019re looking to gain is as good as anything I played in.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, while Liverpool own the world\u2019s most expensive defender and goalkeeper, they have not invested in a new partner for Virgil Van Dijk this summer.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tLovren has had his critics\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

That means Dejan Lovren is likely to remain a first-choice centre-back at Anfield next season and, while he splits opinion among Reds fans, Carragher does not see the Croatian as a weakness.<\/p>\n

\u201cLovren gets a lot of criticism from Liverpool fans and over his Liverpool career he has made mistakes in big games,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you\u2019re talking about a centre-back who has made who has played in a Champions League final and a World Cup final over the last few months.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve got plenty of options there [at centre-back].<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve got Van Dijk, who was a huge amount of money, but I always say it doesn\u2019t matter how much money you spend on a player \u2013 if he performs, he\u2019ll look worth it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn two or three years time, other centre-backs will go for big money and he\u2019ll look like a bargain.\u201d<\/p>\n
