The main reason for this was it was 1963, and the music genre of reggae had yet to be invented.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Fast forward a decade to 1973, and the trio now known as The Wailers were embarking on their inaugural tour of Britain, to promote their first album for Island Records, Catch a Fire. It was followed up a few months later by the album\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Burnin<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">&#8216;.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Both albums were mixed and finished inside the studios of Island Records in Basing Street. It would be the last albums the trio recorded under the original line<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0up<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">. Four years later with a change of personnel, with Bob now at the helm, and new name &#8211; Bob Marley and the Wailers \u2013 the seminal album Exodus was recorded at Island Studios.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The album would eventually become voted by Time Magazine as the Best Album of 20<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">th<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u202fCentury.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">To celebrate the musical life and achievements of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, a Blue heritage plaque is to be installed on the former Island Studios in Basing Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">installation<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">ceremony\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">will take place on Friday, 4<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">th<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u202fOctober at\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">6:30<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">pm<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0in the evening, and will be attended by special guests and famous personalities from all over the world. It is therefore a fitting tribute to these pioneers who helped to promote Jamaica\u2019s culture, heritage and language to the world\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Trevor Horn, renowned producer and owner of SARM West studios said<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">:\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">I am Very pleased to see a blue plaque going up on the side of the old SARM West studios.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">So much great music was made in the building, while\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Is<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0was open for over 50 years as a recording studio. At the time I said about Nubian\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Jak<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0that \u201cthis could be the second trumpet\u201d. 47 plaque<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0later, 2 statues, a board game series<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0with app,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0and a\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">new\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">groundbreaking documentary in the offing\u2026 it still might be!<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201d<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Anthony Wall, Director of BBC\u202f<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">documentary\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Arena: Exodus 30 Years\u202f<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">On,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">said:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The Wailers are\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">honourary<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0Londoners, they changed the world and their legacy has massively enriched our city.\u202f It\u2019s so right, so right that they\u2019re to be celebrated with this plaque and truly apt that it should be at Basing Street, home to so much great music from Island Records.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Kwaku<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">, BritishBlackMusic.com\/Black Music Congress (BBM\/BMC), said<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">&#8220;Although the genius of reggae started in Jamaica, I&#8217;m glad that we are recognising the London site where the Wailers&#8217; first albums for Island Records were enhanced and mixed, and also the contribution of the British record company that made the Wailers, and Bob Marley in particular, world superstars.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Piers Thompson, DJ and Director at Portobello Radio, said:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201cAs the authentic voice of Ladbroke Grove, Portobello Radio is delighted that there will at last be a blue plaque celebrating the deep connection between Portobello and The Wailers.
