Leeds United could still wrap up the signing of Matej Vydra, though the Derby forward is holding out for a move to the Premier League.
The Rams are open to selling the 26-year-old, who finished last season as the Championship’s top scorer, to help comply with Financial Fair Play Rules, and Leeds have been leading the race for him.
Talks over an £11million move for the former Watford ace have been held, though no deal has been signed off as of yet despite weeks of discussions.
According to the Sun, moving to Elland Road is attractive to Vydra, but the Czech Republic international is not rushing through a deal as he hopes a Premier League side will move for him before the transfer window closes.
Vydra netted 21 times in the second tier last term, and recently-appointed Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa wanted to make him the Whites’ third signing of the summer after loan deals were completed for Chelsea pair Lewis Baker, the midfielder, and goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.
Vydra could still remain at Pride Park for the upcoming season, with manager Frank Lampard last week admitting: “There is a lot of speculation but he is still our player.
“We will see, but while he performs as well as he did last year, with the level of goals, I expect him to stay.”
