Barcelona target Willian is a more important player for Chelsea that Eden Hazard, according to former West Ham striker Dean Ashton.
Both Blues stars have been linked with moves to Spain this summer, despite the departure of Antonio Conte and the arrival of new manager Maurizio Sarri.
Barcelona are keen on bringing Willian to the Nou Camp – with the Brazilian said to be eager to leave after falling out with Conte last season, even though he is now not in charge.
The Spanish champions are said to be planning a THIRD bid of around £55million for the Brazil winger, while Eden Hazard has been linked with rivals Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are on the hunt for Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement following his move to Juventus, and see Hazard as the ideal successor to his No.7 shirt.
Reports on Saturday suggested Real are readying a £112million offer for Hazard, who is regarded as one of the best players in European football.
However, Ashton believes Willian has proved to be the important player for Chelsea and says that losing either player, or both, this summer would be a disaster for the Blues.
“There is no surprise Barcelona are after Willian,” the former Hammers striker said on the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“He’s maybe more important to Chelsea than Hazard. I think over the last three seasons he’s actually been more consistent in his performances.
“Willian goes under the radar because of Hazard’s brilliance at times.
“I feel like Hazard is very in and out, it’s whenever he fancies turning it on.
“For Chelsea, I think a player like Thibaut Courtois is replaceable – but you can’t lose Hazard and Willian. You just can’t lose them both.”
